There were several stories that made us sad in 2017. Here's the list of the stories that had us emotional this year.

Juan Zuniga Shot at El Compadre Restaurant

We still can't comprehend what happened to this local family. Juan Zuniga was shot while coming to the aid of his mother. It happened at the El Compadre Mexican Restaurant on Kings Highway back in July.

Dog Killed at Dog Park

The Shreveport Dog Park opened in July and less than a week after it opened, a small died after being attacked by other dogs at the park.3-4 large mixed breed dogs attacked the smaller animal.

Mark Edward Colby gets a life sentence for murdering his longtime partner Angela Godley. Godley's body was found in her Shreve Island home in 2014. Colby fled to Mexico after the shooting, but he was captured a few days later.

Man Drowns in Cross Lake After Saving 2 Children

This was so tragic and sad. Four adults and three youngsters were on the lake in a boat. Some of the children were swimming  Saturday afternoon. The children were swimming when two of them began to struggle. The man jumped in the water to save the children, but he began to have trouble.

A helicopter crashed into Wallace Lake in Northern DeSoto Parish. The chopper left from the helipad at Horseshoe Casino at about midnight headed for Center, TX. But the chopper did not arrive in Texas.

Kid in the Culvert

Daysean Combest is a name you might not remember, but you should. This 7-year-old Shreveport boy drowned in a drainage ditch in Shreveport when he got swept away during a rain storm. It was such a sad day for our community.

Toy Fair Closes

Toy Fair has been a fixture in Shreveport for decades. It was the go-to place for educational toys and specialty clothing for children. The Baskind family has operated the store since 1951. We will certainly miss this iconic business.

Deputy Robbed by Pimp

A Bossier Vice agent was conducting a sting at a local hotel when he was robbed. The agent was in the process of purchasing a sex act from Taylor Pickens when Zachary Williams (her boyfriend and pimp) charged from the bathroom, pointed a firearm at the agent and demanded he give him money.

Another iconic local business closed its doors this year. George's grill shut down back in the spring. It was a surprise announcement for many when a sign was placed on the door with a notice to customers. George's Grill was a staple in the Shreveport community since it 1960.

A Marine who was killed in action in WWII, whose remains have been in an Unknown status since his death in 1943, has recently been identified. He is Corporal Raymond Clark Snapp. He was born September 8, 1919 in Illinois Bend, Texas. He had relatives in our area and his body was transported to our area for burial with full military honors.

Disco Dale Dies

He was known to all as "Disco Dale". He was legendary in local nightclubs for decades. You could catch him dancing the night away on many weekends. He was loved and had quite a following for many years. RIP Disco Dale.

Boy Scouts Die in Bizarre Accident at Lake O' the Pines

Two Boy Scouts died after a tragedy on Lake O' the Pines. Officials believe a sailboat hit a power line Saturday afternoon causing the accident. A third scout, Thomas Larry died later. His family donated his organs to help save others.
