The 11-year-old Boy Scout who was fighting for his life after a tragic accident on Lake O' the Pines has died.

Texas Parks & Wildlife spokesman Steve Lightfoot tells the Marshall News Messenger the 11-year-old Scout died Monday. Thomas Larry was hospitalized at University Health in Shreveport following the sail boat accident.

The boy was in a catamaran on Alley Creek with two older boys, 17-year-old Will Brannon and 16-year-old Heath Faucheux, when the mast hit a powerline..

A Scout official said a Scout leader quickly reached the boat but the two teens were already dead.

Thomas Larry's Mother posted this message on social media:

First, I want to say how grateful we are for all the love and support we have received since this happened to Thomas. The response has been overwhelming. Sadly, I have to report Thomas lost his battle earlier today. Everything that could have been done was, but it was God's will to call him home. Your prayers did make a difference. So I'm asking for continued prayers for our family for comfort in these trying times.

No determination has been made about why the power line was hanging over the water.

Upshur Rural Electric Cooperative, which owns the line, is cooperating with authorities.
