I made the mistake of deciding to move in the middle of one of the hottest summers I have ever experienced. Learn from my mistake! Below you will see my five golden rules for moving homes in the middle of the summer.

  • 1

    Plan Out the Day

Try to move earlier in the day so that you aren't stuck with a hot sun beaming right on top of your head when moving boxes or furniture into the new home.

  • 2

    Drink Water

Don't get dehydrated while trying to pick up that gorgeous dresser your mom spray painted black and gave to you when you moved you got your own place. Sure it is heavy, but it matches all your bedroom furniture. Have several bottles of water ready to go for you and your helpers for the day.

  • 3

    Take Breaks

Don't push yourself too hard. When you start losing your momentum take a moment and continue. Don't try to push through the heat either. If you are afraid of productivity slowing down time out your breaks. Use your phone to force yourself to take a break and then get back to moving.

    Wear the Light Clothes

I think this is a pretty obvious thing. You're not going to be wearing long sleeve shirts in the middle of the summer. But you also want to wear a hat to cover your face from the sun when you're moving the stuff from vehicles to inside your new home.

    Prepare the New Home

You don't want to be stuck just having moved all your stuff in to your new place and the AC hadn't been on, or worse the electric isn't on. Plan to already have the electric on, and turn on that AC to get your home nice and cool. That way after you have done all the heavy lifting in the morning you can unpack in the cool inside of your new home.
