Six-year-old Brenden Houston has died after being hit by school bus in north Shreveport.

On Thursday May 15, 2014, just before 4:00 p.m., Shreveport Police responded to a school bus accident at the intersection of Winter Garden Drive near Addison Street in Shreveport's North Highlands neighborhood.

A 6-year old boy was found suffering serious injuries after being hit by a Caddo Parish School bus he had just exited. The child, a Herndon Magnet student identified as Brenden Houston, was rushed to University Health Medical Center where he later died.

Preliminary information and evidence recovered at the scene suggests Houston was hit by the school bus driven by 59-year-old Debra Kay Stevens of Hosston, Louisiana, as she made a turn onto Winter Garden Drive from Addison Street.

It's believed Houston, after getting off the bus, may have walked out of the sight of Stevens and was thought to be clear of the bus prior to Stevens driving away.

Stevens was subsequently transported to a local hospital for standard toxicological screening. While impairment is not suspected in the crash, the investigation continues.
