Adele Inspired Kristen Stewart’s ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Performance

Kristen Stewart is known mainly for her work as Bella Swan in the ‘Twilight‘ movies, but she’ll start breaking away from that soon-to-be-over franchise with a starring role in this weekend’s ‘Snow White and the Huntsman‘ — and her inspiration for the sword-wielding Snow came from a fairly surprising source.

“I didn’t grow up on fairy tales,” Stewart explained during a recent interview with the Chicago Sun-Times. “People kept saying to me, ‘Oh, like us you grew up with this story.’ My answer is, ‘No, not really. I didn’t.’”

So when it came time to take on the starring role in director Rupert Sanders’ revisionist take on the Snow White legend — which finds the “fairest of them all” donning a suit of armor and waging a rather ugly war against her wicked stepmother — Stewart didn’t have to overcome many preconceived notions about the character. And when she needed to get psyched up for the battle scenes, she turned to a rather unusual place.

“I had Adele on my iPod all the time while doing Snow White,” Stewart told the Sun-Times. “I choreographed whole marches with the army behind me to Adele in my one ear.”

Although Adele might not be the first singer you think of when choreographing epic battle scenes, they did the trick for Stewart. “Adele is really good for the Snow White story. Almost oddly good,” she insisted. “She hits the nail on the head for me, and her words are incredible.”
