Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" has been up for many awards and  year-end charts, but I think the most important one  is the year-end sales chart.  Yahoo! Chart Watch reports that the song has set a record by selling more copies in a calendar year than any other track in digital history.

According to Nielsen Soundscan, "Rolling in the Deep" has sold 5,572,000 copies so far this year.  To find a song that has sold that many copies in one year, Chart Watch points out that you have to go back to pre-digital times -- the song that did it was Elton John's Princess Diana tribute, "Candle in the Wind 1997."  It sold 8,011,000 actual CD singles in 1997.

Adele didn't have high hopes for the song saying, ""I loved the song the minute I wrote it."  But, she added, "I thought it would be more a tastemaker vibe than a hit."  How wrong she was.
