This has been quite a year for Airline High School senior Erin Bullock.  She not only was named Bossier Parish High School Student of the Year, she was subsequently chosen as Region 1 High School Student of the Year, representing a 15-parish area.

Now Erin has been awarded the biggest award of them all. She has been named a 2017 National Merit Scholar, a truly rare honor indeed.  Only .002-percent of the more than 1.6 million finalists are declared Scholars.  She will receive a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship, and will get corporate and collegiate-sponsored scholarships totaling another $5,000.

Airline senior Noah Booker was also a finalist and won a $2,500 collegiate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship award to Baylor University.

Airline High School officials are understandably ecstatic for their students' achievements. Airline High Principal Jason Rowland said, "We are so proud of Erin Bullock and Noah Booker for how they have represented our school and Bossier Parish Schools during the National Merit Scholarship Program.  From a historical perspective, we believe Erin is the first Airline High student to be awarded the highest honor of being a National Merit Scholarship Winner.  She is so deserving of this honor and we celebrate the opportunity to have played a small role in this most high achievement.”

Don't be surprised if you hear Erin's name in the future in a different context.  She plans to attend Oklahoma University, major in English, and then become a professional author.
