In one of the strangest, yet coolest cold opens I've ever seen on SNL, the two characters now knows for their portrayals of our two presidential nominees decided to break character and the result was fantastic.

No one, and I mean no one, has benefited more from this election than Saturday Night Live. Let's face it, this election has felt like an SNL sketch at every stop, so the writers on the legendary NBC show kinda had it easy. Having said that, it felt as though it all came to a wonderful halt on the most recent episode.

Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon have been reviving their roles as our presidential nominees every week over the past month and a half, with both of them absolutely nailing each candidate.

Finally, in the final episode before the election, the show decided to go with a very real approach. Midway through the perfectly normal cold open, Alec drops the script and tells Kate he just doesn't like it when they yell at each other every week. He then asked the audience if they "feel gross" about the election is well, a question that was met with genuine cheers.

The two then hit the streets of NYC, still dressed as the candidates, in a cool effort to unite our country ahead of this very important week.

Bravo to SNL for pulling this off.
