Motorcycle Pastors Jerry and Tina Kennedy continue to recover from injuries suffered in a wreck involving an alleged drunk driver, and they need the community's help.

In an update, we've learned Tina, who suffered multiple broken ribs, vertebra and pelvis, as well as a bruised aorta, has been moved from University Health to a long-term acute care facility to begin rehabilitation. Jerry has been moved to a local rehab facility in order to start physical therapy on his right leg, which was broken in several places and fused with hardware.

A fundraiser held June 14 at River City Grille brought in nearly $1,000, which went to the couple's recovery fund. Another event is being held tomorrow, June 30, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Smitty's Pizza at 9375 Mansfield Road. The business will donate 10% of its sales to the #TeamKennedy Recovery Fund. Restaurant owner Shelly Stockton said motorcycles are welcome, and she's planning for a large crowd.

"We are so excited about this particular fundraiser," said co-organizer Debra Kelly. "Our first fundraiser was amazing! It crowded with supporters as far as Tyler, Texas, making the trip to help support Jerry and Tina Kennedy. It was heartwarming to see how much love was in the room with members of motorcycle clubs from all over the northwest Louisiana, east Texas and other areas, as well as family, friends and even the first responders from the accident scene, come together to support such a great cause."

Other fundraisers are in the works. A Benefit Ride at Radiant Life Church on Mansfield Road in Keithville is set for July 23. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with kickstands up at 10, and lunch and live music at 11. Cost is $20 per rider, $25 per couple, $5 for lunch and raffles all day.

Faith Farms Church and Arena in Elm Grove is also hosting a fish plate dinner with live music by local band Landry and Company.

"The response to our efforts has been phenomenal," said fundraiser co-organizer Lisa Anderson. "Pastors Jerry and Tina are the kindest, most humble people you will ever meet. They will give you the shirt off their backs and never ask for anything in return. That is why we want to help ease their financial burdens."

Other fundraisers, like motorcycle rides, festivals and cookouts, will be announced in the coming weeks. You can also make a donation on the couple's Go Fund Me page, or at the Shreveport location of the Professional Firefighters Credit Union, located at 9410 Healthplex Drive near I-49 and Bert Kouns.

So far, the Go Fund Me page has raised close to $6,800 for Jerry and Tina, with a goal of $15K. Please help if you're able.
