LSU junior defensive back Donte Jackson has informed the school's athletic department that he will make himself eligible for this spring's NFL draft.

Jackson, who this season played cornerback, nickleback and safety, also made the announcement via Twitter:

"After careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with my family, I have decided that it is time to pursue my dream and declare for the 2018 NFL Draft. This has been one of the toughest decisions of my life, but I feel the time is right.

"I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Coach Corey Raymond, Coach Frank Wilson, Coach Les Miles and Coach Ed Orgeron. I love you guys, and I truly appreciate everything you all have done in shaping me into not only the football player, but also the person that I am today.

"I would like to also thank my family for all their support through the years, the Louisiana State University, the coaches and everyone involved with the Tiger football program, and especially the fans, for making my time at LSU something to cherish and remember forever. There is nothing that compares to that feeling a player gets when he runs out of the tunnel on game day into Tiger Stadium. The excitement and road of the fans cannot be equaled anywhere. I will always be a Tiger, and I promise I will return to campus to complete my education and earn my college degree.

"This incredible journey and experience have prepared me for the next chapter in my life and once again, I would like to thank everyone involved for making my dreams a reality.”

Jackson is the fourth LSU underclassmen with plans to enter this year's draft. Others are cornerback Kevin Toliver, linebacker Arden Key and offensive tackle Toby Weathersby.
