Authorities have charged a 30-year-old man with capital murder, accusing him of ambushing a Texas county sheriff’s deputy at a Houston area gas station.

The Harris County Sheriff's office has identified the suspect as Shannon J. Miles. Miles, who has a criminal history that includes convictions for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct with a firearm, was arrested less than a day after authorities say he ambushed Darren Goforth at a suburban Houston Chevron station.

Police say the motive for the killing is unknown, but investigators speculate that Miles, who is black, was motivated by anger at law enforcement pawned the "Black Lives Matter" protest movement. Goforth who was white, was a ten year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff's Department.
