Avril Lavigne performed onstage for the first time in a year Saturday night for the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games, singing her new single, "Fly".

"I just sang FLY on stage for the FIRST time ALL THE WAY THROUGH live tonight in rehearsal," Avril posted on her Instagram page Friday. "Making what feels like the impossible possible......Fighting through Lyme Disease. ‘Just Reach Up Don't Give Up' so happy to be working with the Special Olympics LA 2015. Grateful."

The 30-year-old was diagnosed with Lyme disease last October and was bedridden for some time, but credits her friends and family for her recovery.

Lavigne hopes she can serve as an inspiration to others with her new song which she performed at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, sharing, "I wanted the athletes to be the stars of the video and, just like the message of the song, to show the world that they can overcome the challenges and that everyone is meant to shine. It's just about inner strength and courage. This song took on a whole new meaning for me while I was sick, which was pretty magical."
