Barksdale Air Force Base will host a family-fun Open House and Air Show, open to the public on April 26-27.

Barksdale Air Force Base has partnered with the Shreveport-Bossier Military Affairs Council to host a free event on April 26-27, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The public is invited onto Barksdale's base in Bossier City to watch the air show.

This year's show features the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the Boeing B-52. The line-up has more than 25 performances by Barksdale pilots, civilian and other aerobatic pilots. Pilots include Jeremy Holt, Dave Leedom, Matt Younkin, Mike Goulian, Jim Tobul and more. Several aircrafts will be on display like X300s, B-25 Mitchells, A-70 Thunderbolts, F-15E Strike Eagles, F-22s and many more.

Guests may enter the base through Gates 23, 25, and 27, which will open at 9 a.m. Performances begin at 11 a.m., with the final performance taking off at 3 p.m. Following the show, the pilots will sign autographs until 4:30 p.m. Guests may also tour retired military planes and static displays, as well as other equipment.

Barksdale AFB is known as the home of the American Boeing B-52. The plane is a long-range, jet-powered strategic bomber that can carry 70,000 pounds of weapons. Its speed reaches 644 miles per hour or over 10 miles per minute.
