Comedy legend Bill Cosby's legal team has countersued seven of the women who have accused him of sexually assaulting them, claiming that they have "engaged in a campaign to assassinate Mr. Cosby's reputation and character" with their accusations.

The lawsuit also claims that the women waited until it was announced that he had a sitcom deal in the works to make the accusations.

Tamara Green, Therese Serignese and Linda Traitz, three of the women listed in Cosby's lawsuit, sued the comedian for defamation in Massachusetts in November 2014 while the rest, Louisa Moritz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis and Angela Leslie, joined earlier this year.

Cosby is seeking damages on claims of defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
