Giant Black and Yellow Garden Spider Visits the Townsquare Media Shreveport Building [Photos]

If you have arachnophobia, this isn't the first thing you'd want to see in the morning! We were shocked to find this big spider hanging in its web right outside our building in Shreveport today. But what kind of spider is it, and more importantly, is it dangerous?

From the spider's yellow-colored markings and size, we were able to identify it as a black and yellow garden spider, or corn spider. It's also known as a writing spider, due to the fancy, zig-zag web pattern it creates. But its scientific name is Argiope aurantia.

Despite its considerable size and scary, fang-like legs, the black and yellow garden spider is harmless to humans. It can still bite, however.

The big arachnid gave us the creeps just looking at it and we really wanted to keep our distance, but we just had to snap some photos of it.
