Blood Drive at Local Library on Monday

On Monday, June 19, the LifeShare Blood Centers will be set up at the Cedar Grove Library. The Library is located on 8303 Line Avenue in Shreveport. The Blood Drive will start at 2:30 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m.

Ever wonder why you donate blood? I was the kid who thought that vampires ran blood blanks, little did I know the medical uses blood for multiple of reasons.

According to World Health Organization, the medical industry uses blood for:

• women with complications of pregnancy, such as ectopic pregnancies and haemorrhage before, during or after childbirth
• children with severe anaemia often resulting from malaria or malnutrition
• people with severe trauma following man-made and natural disasters
• many complex medical and surgical procedures and cancer patients.

No vampires, that I know of, will be in contact with the blood transportation.
