Books-A-Million in Bossier City Closes

If you’ve driven by the Books-A-Million located on Bossier City’s bustling Airline Drive, you might have noticed the store’s familiar lettering stripped from the building. That isn’t due to renovation.

The location has been shuttered; the latest casualty of a more tech-savvy literary crowd moving on to electronic options.

A hand-written note stuck to the front doors of the Books-A-Million store simply reads ‘We’re Closed.’

Several would-be customers parked their cars in front of the store and stared in shock before driving off.

The inside of the Books-A-Million store, once packed with books, has been gutted.

The Joe Muggs coffee shop counter is still there, as are the numerous shelves that once housed thousands of books.

A former employee speaking on the condition of anonymity told 710 KEEL that 2nd & Charles,¬†Books-A-Million’s sister company, will be opening a store in the same location as the now-shuttered store.

Employees who previously worked for the company’s Airline Drive location will be at the top of the list for possible employment at the new store, but have not been guaranteed a job, the employee said.

The store closing, however, is nothing new for book retailers. In 2011, Borders shuttered all remaining stores after filing for bankruptcy. The Birmingham, Alabama-based Books-A-Million has closed several stores in 2014.

We’ve reached out to Books-A-Million for comment, but have yet to receive one.
