Residents now have more ways to stay connected to the Bossier Sheriff's Office.

The agency has recently launced a new mobile app and Twitter feed. These new outreach efforts have been added to the office's existing social media to provide public safety alerts and information, and allow better interaction with the public.

"Communication methods are rapidly changing, and social media is an excellent way for us to keep residents informed about their Bossier Sheriff's Office and to develop better communication with our residents," said Sheriff Julian Whittington in a BSO news release. "Our goal is to ensure people have quick access to breaking public safety information, provide a means for the public's help in solving crimes and show how our deputies and staff are committed to serving our community."

Recent Facebook postings on the sheriff's office page have helped investigators on various cases, including missing persons, wanted suspects and runaway teens. Just last month, the creation of the 'Bossier Doe' Facebook profile played a critical role in identifying an unknown homicide victim from 34 years earlier as Carol Ann Cole.

The free mobile app will provide breaking information, like traffic allerts and inclement weather, and allow residents to submit tips about suspected criminal activity in their neighborhoods. It's available for iOS and Android devices via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

The Twitter feed will provide breaking information and news of interest and can be followed using the handle @bossiersheriff. The YouTube site is used for surveillance videos, PSAs and other relevant videos for the sheriff's office. You've also got the BSO website, which remains a source of information about the agency, including news releases and arrests.
