Just days after he hinted at new music, Brandon Flowers has revealed the name and release date for his upcoming second solo album. The Desired Effect will arrive in stores on May 18.

Last week, the Killers singer previewed the new LP with a 30-second video. Yesterday (Feb. 23), Flowers unveiled the album’s title in a tweet that also contained a link to his website with this message to fans:

“We will finally achieve ‘The Desired Effect.’ Ariel [Rechtshaid] and I have been collaborating in the studio, working twogether [sic] in the spirit of conversation, contention, and at long last, sweet contrition. No one has yet seen or heard the change. But soon we all will.”

Although Flowers says he enjoys the freedom of working on his own music, separate from the Killers – who put out their most recent album, Battle Born, back in 2012 – he also said he's very invested in the process of collaborating with Rechtsahaid, who produced the upcoming LP.

“It’s nice to steer the ship and that’s what you’d think I’d do on my own album, but I’m letting Ariel take over every now and then,” Flowers told NME. “That’s led to some really exciting things and sounds I would never have used. As I’ve gotten older I’m much more open to that – I’m much more open to people’s strengths and really trying to utilize them – and that’s where Ariel comes into the picture.”

Following his debut solo effort, 2010’s Flamingo, Flowers said his new full-length will mark a change in direction and sound.

“[Rechtshaid is] really knowledgeable about every genre; it’s pretty incredible what he’s able to reference and pull out,” Flowers added. “It’s definitely going to be different, but I’m still in the thick of it, hammering away.”
