[UPDATE]   A month-long investigation yields one arrest and the seizure of thousands of dollars in illegal narcotics.

Shreveport Police Corporal Marcus Hines tells KEEL News that Caddo-Shreveport Narcotics Task Force members were acting on tips from the public that there was illegal drug activity going on at a home in the 2800 block of West Caperton Street.

"During the course of that operation, the agents arrested 27-year-old Rico Mars, a Shreveport man, who's been charged with multiple counts of distribution of Schedule I and II narcotics," Corp. Hines said. "The entire seizure netted a gross amount of almost $275,000 in illegal narcotics, $4,000 in cash, along with other illegal substances that were seized during the arrest."

Hines said while Mars was the only person arrested during the operation, it is always possible other arrests could be made later.

Among the drugs seized were more than 20 pounds of marijuana, nearly 65 grams of cocaine, and multiple bottles of highly-potent syrup people use to get high.

"This seizure in all was a great success. You're talking about taking over 23 pounds of marijuana off the street, which is a sizeable seizure in this part of our city, in this northern part of the state," Hines said. "We want people to understand that the information that we receive from tips and from people in the community, we do act upon. Even though you may not see what's happening, this is a testament to that hard work that these guys do every day."
