With the Krewe of Aesclepius dissolving, the Krewe of Atlas has generously taken on the 'task' of planning the closing festivities to the Mardi Gras season in northwest Louisiana.

So what exactly is the bridge closing ceremony and what does it have to do with Mardi Gras? Well, it's something we do here in northwest Louisiana. Members from all of the area krewes meet for one last time high atop the Texas Street Bridge in downtown Shreveport at 11:30pm for a final presentation of the royalty and then Monsignor Provenza will provide a blessing and impose ashes on all those who wish to partake at midnight as we usher in the Lenten season.

Prior to heading to the bridge there's a pre-party... of course there is... It's Mardi Gras, right? This year's pre-bridge closing party is at ArtSpace, 710 Texas Street in downtown Shreveport starting at 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 and will be sold the night of the event. A big thing to remember, CASH is the only form of payment accepted, so please make sure to bring CASH as they won't accept credit or debit cards. Your admission includes gumbo, red beans and rice and a chili bar. You can also purchase a $10 bottomless drink cup for beer, wine or Mardi Gras punch.

Don't forget to dress warmly! It can get pretty cold on top of that bridge! Cheers to another great Mardi Gras season in Shreveport/Bossier and a big shout out to the Krewe of Atlas for taking on this tradition! #LetTheGoodTimesRoll
