The Bossier Sheriff's Office has scheduled a Handgun Safety and Familiarization class on January 21 for Bossier Parish residents.

The class runs from 6-9 p.m. at the Viking Drive Substation in Bossier City. According to the sheriff's office, this will not be a shooting class, but will familiarize you with how to safely handle your individual handgun. You can bring your own gun to the class, but it's not required. Make sure your weapon is unloaded and don't bring any ammunition.

"As a strong supporter of the entire 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms, I want our residents to know how to safely operate and maintain their own handguns," said Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington in a news release.

The class is free and offered to Bossier residents aged 18 and older. Class size is limited to 50 people. Call the North Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy to register at 965-3525.
