Caddo Parish School Board is making a few adjustments to several poorer performing schools in the system.

Officials have announced that they will be re-configuring schools in the district to help meet the needs of the students in those schools and throughout the district.

The most apparent change will be the introduction of a split configuration where some students will go through four schools instead of two or three from kindergarten to 12th grade.

Mooretown, Atkins, Caddo Heights, and Midway will be pre-K through 3rd grade schools.  Sunset Acres and Werner Park will be 4th through 6th grade schools.

Woodlawn and Fair Park high schools will be scaled back to traditional high schools teaching grades 9th through 12th.

Two new middle schools, Lakeshore Middle and Caddo Middle Career and Technology School, will be established to fill in the 7th and 8th grade gap in that progression chain.

This setup allows each school to better focus school-wide programming like assemblies to better match the ages of students in each school and work to offer those schools more age-appropriate activities and resources.

There will be several pre-K through 6th grade schools:

  • Cherokee Park
  • J.S. Clark
  • Northside
  • Pine Grove
  • Queensborough
  • Westwood

The plan will add a 5th through 8th grade academic magnet component to Oak Park Elementary/Middle and will expand the Boardmoor Laboratory magnet program by 25 seats per grade level.

The reconfiguration plan also aims to give school principals more autonomy to allow them to make more precise staffing decisions that matter to each school's needs.
