Congratulations go out today to Claiborne Fundamental Elementary Magnet School. It's been named a National Title I Distinguished School by the National Title I Association.

According to a Caddo Schools news release, Claiborne was one of two schools in Louisiana nominated by the Louisiana Education Department for the 2014-15 school year. The school was selected based on its exceptional student achievement for two or more years.

This makes the second national milestone for the school in recent years. In 2012, it was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Education Department.

“We are very proud of yet another accomplishment for our school,” said principal Ellen Hall in the news release. “This continues to verify the belief that we must provide the best teaching each and every day and the gains will come. When it’s time to teach, we give it our all and don’t accept anything less than the best of our teachers and students.”

The Distinguished Schools Awards is given annually by the National Title I Association to two schools in each state. Caddo Schools Superintendent Lamar Goree shares in Hall's pride for Claiborne's accomplishment.

“The Caddo family is immensely proud of Claiborne for being selected for this national recognition,” said Caddo superintendent Lamar Goree. “Time and time again, our schools prove that when the bar is raised for students, they will rise to the challenge. Claiborne is a true testament to the hard work being done each day to better the lives of our children and, ultimately, our community. Please join us in celebrating this tremendous accomplishment.”

As an award winner, Claiborne has been invited to the National Title I Association conference, where staff will receive a banner to hang over the school.
