College is expensive.  Also, water is wet and our president is orange.  Now that the understatements are out of the way, check this out.  According to LRN, college students are turning to Go Fund Me, the online fundraising site that will let virtually anyone raise money for anything, to cover costs for college.  Traditionally, students would have to juggle one or more part time jobs along with their classes and study time.  Now, work is for suckers that don't know how to tug on the heart strings of strangers on the interwebs!

Nationally, over 130,000 campaigns are going strong to pull in fundage for college students - pulling in about $6 million so far.  In our state, about 11,000 campaigns are rocking along resulting in around $650,000 in donations.

The national average for private college education is around $33,000, and that's just tuition and fees.  Add in housing, books, and food - that number skyrockets!

But the question remains, who would donate?  The majority comes from family and friends, but a surprising number of donations come from alumni and straight up, good-Samaritan type strangers.
