Community groups unite for Christmas Nativity Celebration

(Shreveport, LA: October 6, 2014). A unique Christmas event, the Christmas Nativity Celebration, will take place on December 5 through the 7th, from 6 to 9 p.m. at 200 Carroll Street, Shreveport, LA 71105. The event will include an indoor display of nativities from around the world as well as live Christmas musical performances from Handel’s Messiah with an audience sing-a-long on Friday evening, and a community concert on Saturday featuring high school choirs, community ensembles such as Greater Starlight Singers, the world famous soloists Twyla Robinson, church choirs, and the up and coming soprano group Trio Angelicae.  It is a free event and open to the public. The event is hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  All are invited to come view the nativities surrounded by beautiful Christmas decorations while enjoying musical performances.

Community members throughout the Shreveport/Bossier area are loaning their nativity sets, which depict the birth of Jesus Christ in a variety of forms and through various mediums for this special event. As part of the display there will be more than 200 nativity sets including a glass nativity set from Merano, Italy, an olive wood set from Jerusalem, hand-carved wood sets from Africa and the Philippines as well as nativities from Peru, Canada and many other countries. Artwork depicting various images of the birth and life of Christ will also be on display.

Ross Smith, a congregation leader for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Shreveport said, “We hope our friends in the community, and their families, will come and enjoy this special event. It is an opportunity for us to join together in celebrating the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ and the spirit of this Christmas season.”

Each year, events similar to Shreveport/Bossier’s Christmas Nativity Celebration are held throughout the United States and are hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
