Cpl. Eric Casebolt, the Texas police officer who was placed on administrative leave after drawing a gun on a group of teenagers at a suburban Dallas pool party, has resigned.

Casebolt turned in his badge amid an ongoing internal investigation of the incident which occurred Friday, sources tell NBC News.

He resigned on his own will," McKinney Police Chief Greg Conley announced at a press conference Tuesday, but added that Casebolt, a 10-year veteran of the McKinney Police Department, is still entitled to his pension and benefits.

Casebolt is seen on video wrestling an unarmed 14-year-old girl to the ground and pinning her down with his knees. Footage also shows him pointing a gun and using abusive language toward the teens.

The incident has sparked talk among McKinney residents that black teens at the party were targeted, while some say that the charges were overblown.

When asked about possible criminal charges against Casebolt, McKinney Mayor refused to comment.
