According to the Shreveport Times, the future of Sci-Port is in doubt. An audit conducted by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's office shows that for the past two years, the science center has been operating a major deficit.

Despite having over 120,000 visitors per year and bringing in more than $812,000, the center is operating at nearly a $350,000 deficit. The report suggests that Sci-Port's failure to properly budget programs and operations are the reason for the deficit.

Sci-Port officials told the Times that donations have been down the past couple of years and several of their funding sources have been cut.

The City of Shreveport and Sci-Port have a cooperative deal in place for the property. Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler says that the city is aware of the report. She told the Times, 'The City is aware of the audit findings. Staff has had discussions with the director to determine what some of the issues are.  We know that this is a premier educational center and it is a great asset for our city and region.”
