In a surprise box-office finish, "The Smurfs" tied with sci-fi western mashup "Cowboys & Aliens", taking in an estimated $36.2 million in ticket sales. Another wide-release, the rom-com "Crazy, Stupid, Love", opened in fifth place, taking in $19.3 million.

Last week's no. 1 film, "Captain America: The First Avenger", took a big 62% drop in its second week in theaters, taking in $24.9 million.
