If you have ever wanted a job in law enforcement, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office may have a way for you to get to wear a badge part-time as one of their reserve deputies.

Sheriff Steve Prator says that they are accepting applications for a reserve deputy class expected to begin this summer. Reserve deputies come from all walks of life and from many different full-time professions, but they are instrumental, especially in more rural areas.

Reserves are volunteer deputies who receive a minimum of 100 hours of POST training in areas such as firearms proficiency, defensive tactics, first aid, and Louisiana law. The Reserve Academy will be held one to two nights each week and on Saturdays for eight weeks.

Reserves go through the same hiring process as full-time sheriff’s employees and are trained at the same level as regular patrol deputies. They must meet minimal fitness standards, be at least 21 years old, and be able to volunteer at least 120 hours each year.

The deadline to apply is May 13. Applications can be obtained by contacting the Sheriff’s Personnel Division at 681-0812 or visiting the Sheriff’s Office at 505 Travis Street in Shreveport. For additional information, contact Reserve Captain Phillip Deaton at 453-5138.
