As a part of the Helping Hearts initiative, Bossier schools are making a difference in the community. Check out what Curtis Elementary did.

According to the Shreveport Times, Curtis Elementary School in Bossier City donated $1,100 to the Salvation Army to purchase bus passes for those in need.

Students were encouraged to take donations for the "Bucks for the Bus" program as a part of the Helping Hearts initiative put in place for Bossier Schools. The money will purchase SporTran day passes for those who really need them.

Most of the 470 students took part in the fundraiser, but it was Cheyenne Gomez who brought in the most. Cheyenne is 10 years old and in the 5th grade. She and her mother walked around her neighborhood asking for donations. Cheyenne received $112.40 to donate.
