The Defenders left Daredevil on some uncertain footing, but our first new Season 3 addition may help guide the way. Wilson Bethel has joined the Marvel Netflix drama in a series regular role, speculated to be that of Marvel comics’ “Sin-Eater.”

Variety confirms that Hart of Dixie alum Bethel will join Daredevil Season 3 in the role of “an FBI agent who will play a critical role in the conflict between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk,” though additional details are curiously being kept under-wraps. The article does note that Bethel’s casting resembles a leaked character description that many speculated to be Stanley “Sin-Eater” Carter, a former S.H.I.E.L.D agent turned NYPD officer who makes it his mission to punish the sinful.

You’re warned of Defenders spoilers from here on out, but the series’ final shot not only confirmed Matt Murdock’s survival of the destruction at Midland Circle, but also nodded to the famous “Born Again” storyline. Producers have stated that Season 3 won’t explicitly follow that arc (in which Sin-Eater didn’t appear anyway), but Bethel’s role might potentially fill a similar function that Jessica Jones’ Nuke held in the comics; an assassin sent to kill Daredevil.

Daredevil Season 3 has also confirmed Vincent D’Onofrio’s return as Kingpin, but who might Wilson Bethel end up playing? Will Charlie Cox finally get his wish for Bullseye to appear?
