UPDATE (2/22): Demi Lovato has posted a lengthy caption on Instagram, addressing her own tweets, as many suspect they're aimed at Taylor Swift’s generous $250,000 donation to Kesha. Lovato cleared things up, saying her main intention was to start a dialogue about the way we handle claims of sexual abuse. She also admits her tweets may have detracted from the point she was trying to make.

As most people know, I tend to get fired up about the things I believe in, and although my heart and intentions are always in the right place, unfortunately sometimes my passion gets the best of me and causes me to say things that I probably shouldn't say. And when doing so it takes away from the real reason I am speaking up in the first place. Our focus should be on the topic of victims of sexual and physical abuse being afraid to come forward with their stories. They're more likely to face retaliation and harassment than to see justice being served. Especially women. It baffles me that when it comes to serious issues like equality and abuse, too often women are not taken as seriously as men. All I want to see is women coming together and actually making a difference. A real change and shift in society. Everyone has their own way of giving support to others , and at the end of the day, helping victims is all that matters. Ultimately, the message I want people to hear is it's okay to come forward with your abuse and if you do decide to take action, you are not alone.

Taylor Swift just reportedly donated $250,000 to Kesha in support of her ongoing legal battle with Dr. Luke, according to Kesha's mother — but Demi Lovato doesn't feel that gesture is enough.

As news first surfaced online this evening (February 21) that Swift donated to Kesha, Lovato — who vented about women's empowerment and "convenient" feminism demonstrated by unnamed "self-proclaimed feminists" over the weekend on Twitter — wrote what many believed to be a thinly veiled criticism of Swift's financial donation to Kesha's cause.

"Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I'll be impressed," she tweeted late Sunday evening.

It didn't stop there.

Swift fan account @proudofswift posted a screen capture on Instagram of Demi's tweet: "I got this from @pitifulswift. The fact that Demi took the attention off of the REAL issue which is Kesha and put it on her and what seems to be a new 'rivalry' really shows her true character. Proud of you @taylorswift for donating money to help Kesha through this time," the account — which has since gone private — wrote.

Demi evidently saw the post, and immediately responded in the comment section.

"How the fuck am I making this about myself? At least I'm talking about it," Lovato commented. "Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn't grow up with money and def haven't made as much as her. At least I speak up about shit that's uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7."

"There's no 'rivalry' I just give more fucks than other people and would rather start a dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person," she added in a second comment.

Swift has yet to publicly comment on Kesha's situation...or this recent "rivalry."
