The Black Lives Matter Movement has been holding rallies across the country in light of the deaths of men in Baton Rouge and St. Paul. Alton Sterling was killed by police in Baton Rouge while Philando Castile was shot dead by an officer in Minnesota.

A local prayer vigil is being held Saturday at 4pm on the Milam Street side of the Caddo Courthouse. We've done a little research on the BLM movement and found this on the groups' website:

Black Lives Matter "is an ideological and political intervention in a world where Black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise.  It is an affirmation of Black folks’ contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression."

The Black Lives Matter Network has 39 chapters and continues to grow each year.

There are no BLM chapters in Louisiana.
