You might have seen a photo of a small skeleton-like creature bouncing around Facebook. Folks have been calling it an alien, but scientists want us to know that it is human and not extraterrestrial.

According to The Mercury News, scientists from the Institute for Computational Health Sciences at UC San Francisco have discovered that the skeleton belongs to a female human. The size of the human, which is the length of a dollar bill, makes them believe it is a fetus that suffered from severe genetic mutations which caused a rare bone-aging disorder. The discoveries were published in March 22's issue of Genome Research.

I think my favorite thing from the Mercury News article explaining the discovery is the quote from the director of the Institute for Computational Health Sciences at UC San Francisco. Dr. Atul Butte told Mercury News that, “We’re not disproving the existence of aliens. But this is not one of them.” Which, of course, means that there is still hope.
