You will never want to throw away your mascara brushes again after you find out what your donated mascara brushes will be used for.

The Appalachian Wildlife Refuge has a program called "Wands for Wildlife". According to their website, the donated mascara wands are used to "remove fly eggs and larva from the fur of wild animals." The reason they prefer mascara brushes rather than little combs is because of how the mascara brushes are designed to have the bristles very close together.

Very similar to the many of the animal rescues we have here in our area, The Appalachian Wildlife Refuge is a nonprofit and completely ran by volunteers. They are accepting more than just the mascara brushes. They also will take in food and supplies and also monetary donations.

As stated on their website, "donations can be made online or sent in with the mascara wands." They also mention that if you decide to donate your used mascara brush to wash them before sending.

You can mail your donations to P.O. Box 1211, Skyland, NC 28776.
