Jamie Brewer is an actress and model best known for her work on FX's "American Horror Story", and beginning Thursday, she'll be making history as the first woman with Down syndrome to walk the catwalk during New York Fashion Week.

Brewer will be wearing an original design by Carrie Hammer, who heads up the "Role Models Not Runway Models" campaign. Hammer began the campaign last year when she was first asked to feature her line at Fashion Week.

"Young girls and even young women...[see me] and say ‘hey, if she can do it so can I,'" Brewer told "The Today Show". "It's a true inspiration being a role model for any young women to [encourage them] in being who they are and showing who they are."

"I called up my existing clients who were all incredible women and one of them happened to be a doctor and a sex therapist who happened to be in wheelchair," Hammer said during the interview. "It was never intended to be this incredible statement."

When asked what Hammer will create for Brewer, she said that she'll be working on a design inspired by Jamie's "American Horror Story" character. "American Horror Story is dark, scary, bewitching so we had to go with black and Jamie has a beautiful body with a teeny waist and curves and we went with an A-line," she told "Today".

"It's amazing, it's really neat," said Brewer. "Many women have many sides to their personality, this dress fits...mine. I am honored to be in it."

Go get 'em, Jamie! We're rooting for you!
