One of the cooler new laws passed in the recent bout of Louisiana legislative action, is a measure that would allow teachers in the Bayou State attend college classes for free.  I say free, but as you know - nothing is free.  The federal and state government will be picking up the tab for the courses at any regionally accredited college or university, and some private universities as well - but, there's a catch.  According to WGNO, there are only 21 seats available for 2018-2019.

If you are a teacher, and would like to apply for the BESE program in order to enroll for these free college courses - you can get the application here, but there's a few things you need to know first.  Unfortunately, there are only 21 seats available this year.  That's 7 each for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semester.  The deadline is looming as well - if you want to get in on this program for the Fall semester, you must get your application in before July 23rd.  Lastly, the program is open to all currently certified and employed teachers - but a higher priority will be placed on applicants who want to enroll in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) classes, teachers in rural areas, teach at a school designated as Comprehensive Intervention Required, or are using the course as part of a higher degree.

Acceptance/denial notifications will be made available on July 27th.  Applications for the Spring 2019 semester will be available in October of this year.
