Local business owners and community members are rallying around a couple best known as the 'Motorcycle Pastors' for their work in sharing the Word of God and helping those dealing with addiction.

On Memorial Day weekend, Jerry and Tina Kennedy were headed home on their motorcycle after officiating the wedding of a young couple who had been rescued from addiction, when a drunk driver in a pickup truck pulled out in front of them. Both were critically injured, and were rushed to University Health.

According to family and friends, Jerry suffered broken bones, including a shattered right leg, and spent nine days on a ventilator. Tina is still on a ventilator, and is recovering from 10 broken vertebra, 13 broken ribs, a broken pelvis and other broken bones.

We're told they will recover, but it will be a very long road. Jerry is retired from General Motors, and neither he nor Tina will be able to work for a while. So a couple of local ladies, Debra Kelly and Lisa Anderson, have helped organized several fundraisers to defray some of the couple's medical costs.

Tuesday, June 14, from 5-9 p.m., River City Grille will donate 10% of your ticket to help the Kennedys. The restaurant is located at 1903 Benton Road in Bossier City. You will need to bring a pre-printed flier to hand to your server. You can get that at the Professional Firefighters Credit Union on Healthplex Drive in Shreveport, near Bert Kouns and I-49. Volunteers will also be at the restaurant handing out the vouchers at the door.

June 30, Smitty's Pizza on Mansfield Road will donate a portion of its sales from open to close to Jerry and Tina's recovery fund.

Other fundraisers are being held at later dates, including a hamburger cookout, complete with raffle items and live music, at Radiant Life Church on Mansfield Road in Keithville, and a chicken/sausage plate cookout at Central Christian Church on W. Bert Kouns. A concert featuring Landry and Company is also planned at Faith Farms Church and Arena in Elm Grove.

If you want to donate now, there's a Go Fund Me account set up in the name of 'Help Motorcycle Pasters Jerry & Tina' and an account at the Professional Firefighters Credit Union.

Please consider helping out two people that I'm hearing have helped so many others through their ministry.
