There's no question that 9-1-1 operators have a tough, but important job. Unfortunately, some people call them with decidedly non life-and-death problems. These audio snippets highlight times when people called Caddo 9-1-1 for the wrong reasons.

In one call, a young girl reports to a Caddo 9-1-1 dispatcher that there's a turtle crossing Youree Drive during a rainstorm and she's scared that it could cause an accident.

A second call also has an animal focus, with a young man explaining that he saw rabbits jumping a fence too quickly. From the audio, it seems like this one is just a prank call; the operator had to call back to verify after the caller initially hangs up.

And the final call is a kindly sounding older lady who just wants the area code to Kentucky so she can call her niece. It's a touching call, and after it ends the operator quips, "That's one to mark for the Jay Leno show."

You can hear all three funny 9-1-1 calls below. But remember: 9-1-1 is for emergencies only, and we don't condone calling it to play a prank.

According to 911.gov, an emergency is "a situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance" and you should call 9-1-1 if there's...

  • ...A fire
  • ...A crime, especially if in progress
  • ...A car crash, especially if someone is injured
  • ...A medical emergency, such as someone who is unconscious, gasping for air or not breathing, experiencing an allergic reaction, having chest pain, having uncontrollable bleeding, or any other symptoms that require immediate medical attention
