The information gathered in the assessments is needed in support of possible federal assistance. The data will be used to coordinate with FEMA and develop a request for
President Obama to issue a Major Federal Disaster Declaration due to the Red
River flooding.

GOHSEP Director Kevin Davis says

We want to make sure everything is done to help people and communities impacted by the Red River flooding. The work these assessment teams perform is the first step in determining if federal assistance may be available. GOHSEP wants to make sure this information is gathered as quickly as possible to help secure a presidential disaster declaration.

The National Weather Service says river levels may remain high for the next
several weeks. The Red River is expected to crest in areas south of Shreveport during
the next several days. The GOHSEP assessment teams have already started meeting with local leaders in parishes impacted by the flooding. They will help determine if the Individual Assistance (IA), Public Assistance (PA) or Small Business Administration (SBA) programs will be available
