We know lawmakers will be talking about raising taxes on several fronts this month, but this proposal might come as a surprise.

Gov. John Bel Edwards supports House Bill 562. KPLC reports the measure would add a tax on digital streaming services like Netflix and Spotify, along with mobile apps, satelite radio and cable television.

The proposed streaming tax would be the same as the state's sales tax, which is closing in on 5% (4.97 percent).

And our state is not low on the national sales tax totem pole. Louisiana has the highest combined sales tax in the country.

If approved, this new tax would bring in millions of dollars.
