State Senator Greg tarver of Shreveport talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the current state of Louisiana's state budget, including Governor John Bel Edwards statement Monday that the state is a billion dollars short for 2018.

The Senator tells KEEL listeners that "we are facing a very serious problem in Louisiana," and that the state needs to raise that billion dollars in revenue or "we're facing cutting TOPS, Medicaid, Medicare for the poor (and) we're about to close all the (public) hospitals in Louisiana because we do not have the money."

When asked if he supports raising taxes to close the budget gap, Tarver said that when votes a tax increase on Louisianans, he's also voting a tax increase on himself, but, "everybody got to pay his proper share."
