This Friday, October 3, fans will gather for a special home game at Haughton High stadium to see match-up between Haughton High School and St. Mary Natchitoches football teams. This year’s American Heart Association "Red Out" game will honor Coach Rodney Guin.

The "Red Out" will take place to bring awareness to heart disease, the number one killer of all Americans. The pre-game ceremony starting at 6:30 pm, will consist of recognizing Coach Guin and his family, a check presentation to the American Heart Association by Haughton High School Principal Gene Couvillon, recognition of members of the Willis Knighton cardiac team that provided care to Coach Guin and recognition and thanks to the Bossier School Board for the strong partnership that has developed with the AHA.

There will be a moment of silence to honor and remember loved ones and recognize those attending the game who are heart survivors. The Haughton Cheerleaders have led the way with fundraising efforts by selling a special t-shirt that was designed for this game based around the theme, This is Your Life-#GOREDFORRODNEY-and Coach Guin’s motto: 1 School-1 Team-1 Heart.

Members of the team, students and community members have purchased and will be wearing the special shirt to school or work on that day and to the game to honor Coach Guin and their loved ones.

The Haughton Fire Department will be on site demonstrating C.P.R. The special t-shirt is not available on hand, but those attending the game will be able to order and pre-pay for shirts by visiting the American Heart Association information table near the concession stand. Shirts ordered now will be ready for delivery or pick up the week after the game. Cost of the shirt ranges from $12 to $22 depending on shirt style and size. Short sleeve and long sleeve shirts available.

Cardiovascular disease kills more people in the US than the next 5 leading causes of death combined, including cancer. It is the number 1 killer of women. The "Red Out" is a great way to celebrate the life of family and friends we have lost to this devastating disease while making a difference by helping to save others.

All proceeds go to the American Heart Association and will help to fund research and education.

This year’s "Red Out" has been organized by student leaders and members of the cheerleading squad and dance line. Special thanks to staff advisor, Kelli Shaw.
