With the high amount of uninsured motorists in Louisiana (we rank 16th in the country) compounded with the high cost of auto insurance (we've got the 4th highest rates in the country), you'd think teen drivers would have it tough in Louisiana, but you would think wrong!

I still remember getting my permit at 14 and my license at 15 and not thinking a thing of it... then it came time for my step-daughter to get her license and I realized that 14 and 15 years old is just too young. Heck, I'm not even sure 16 is old enough! It's not that I'm wanting to raise the driving age, it's just that when your child starts driving, you worry! After all, there are idiots everywhere! With people texting and driving and basically doing everything but pay attention, it's no wonder why the leading cause of death for those between 16 and 19 years of age is auto accidents.

I don't know about you, but I was surprised to find that Louisiana is the 8th best state for teen drivers. One of the factors include that in Louisiana, we have one of the lowest teen DUI rates.

While Lani is 21 now, I still worry about her out on the road, but I hope like me, this information makes you feel at least a little better!
