U.S. life expectancy is falling while other countries are seeing improvements. Here's the top ten on the list based on life expectancy forecast for 2040:

The United States will take the biggest drop in ranking of all high-income countries based on the new study predictions and it currently has the lowest life expectancy among high-income countries. Life expectancy in the US has dropped in each of the past two years, according to annual reports by the National Center for Health Statistics, representing the first multi-year drop since 1962 and 1963.

The United States takes the biggest drop in ranking of all high-income countries, falling from 43rd in 2016 to 64th by 2040, with an average life expectancy of 79.8. Our life expectancy is up, though, from 78.7.

The report in The Lancet says in 2040, Japan, Singapore, Spain, and Switzerland had a forecasted life expectancy exceeding 85 years for both sexes, and 59 countries including China were projected to surpass a life expectancy of 80 years by 2040.

On the other end of the scale, Central African Republic, Lesotho, Somalia, and Zimbabwe had projected life expectancies below 65 years in 2040.

Among the U.S. states Louisina is near the bottom with a life expectancy of 75.7. Hawaii tops the list of U.S. states with a life expectancy of 81.3.
