Monroe has ride sharing services, so does Texarkana... What gives? Why don't we have Lyft or Uber in Shreveport?

As it turns out, Shreveport may be 'driving' towards a deal with Lyft after all. Apparently, the Shreveport city charter has a hold harmless/liability clause and last month the city council voted to remove it. What that clause did was absolve the city of any liability with regard to the company and it's employees.  KSLA reports that neither Lyft or Uber has had to deal with that particular clause in any other city. The way I understand it is there are other protections for the city in the charter should any problems emerge. Another bone of contention is the $.25 per ride fee the city wants to collect. Uber has issue with this, while Lyft has agreed to pay.

Okay, so now you have the history. Here's the new stuff! KSLA was able to confirm that Lyft did apply to operate in Shreveport Friday, October 6, 2017. That confirmation came yesterday.

So what does that mean? It looks like we could all be downloading the Lyft app on our phones soon and I won't have to worry about how I'm getting back to my hotel after Mardi Gras functions in downtown Shreveport. Thank you Lyft!

Now if we could only get '2 Ride' in Shreveport/Bossier City. At least that's what we called it back in the day... looks like it's called StearClear now. We had it when I lived in Syracuse, NY and it was a service that a lot of companies purchased on behalf of their employees. If you became impaired for whatever reason and could not drive, two drivers would show up at your destination and one would drive you and your car home, while the other followed. Now that's something I could really get behind! You don't even have to figure out how to pick up your car the next day!
