Katy Perry doesn’t want any heat between herself and her pop peers — after being accused of taking a stab at Britney Spears‘ money-making product placement in her new ‘Hold It Against Me‘ video, Perry took to Twitter (again) to put the rumors to rest.

According to popcrush (www.popcrush.com),  on Feb. 18, the ‘Firework’ pop star tweeted a response to Welsh singer-songwriter Marina Diamandis’ discussion of product placement in music videos. “Do it w/style & grace…Not so in ur face like some. U hv to get creative w/it. Some artists don’t care tho, & u can tell,” Perry told her.

As is true of any celebrity, when you open your mouth, flies can get in. Perry received a backlash from her comments, with many suggesting she was taking a direct stab at Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ video, which is host to half-a-million dollars in endorsements.

In an open Twitter letter to “tabloid media aka FILTH,” Perry squashed the accusatory statements that she was taking a dig at the ‘…Baby One More Time’ hitmaker. She wrote, “Pls note I expressed an overall feeling bout product placement, their roles in vids & the art of them being complimenting or sticking out. Most, if not ALL popsters welcome deals w/products 2 offset costs of big budget vids in these recessional music industry times.”

In several tweets, Perry added that she herself has used product placement in her videos. “I’VE used them in MY vids before & am happy 2b able 2 make a better vid because of … Once AGAIN, stop pitting artists against artist for ur sensational satisfaction & stick to what ur best @: lying, gossiping, exaggerating & overall lending a hand 2 the deterioration of a generation,” Perry said.

While Mrs. Perry-Brand certainly had a mouthful for the media, we’re glad she cleared the air with Spears!
