Lady Gaga to Launch Born Brave Bus on Tour to Raise Mental Health Awareness
Lady Gaga and her Born This Way Foundation are setting up mental health awareness booths at the shows on the upcoming North American leg of her Born This Way Ball, which launches next month in Canada.
In the wake of last week’s tragic shooting in Newtown, Ct., which left 26 people dead — 20 of them children — and a nation in mourning, Gaga is doing her part and using her fame to raise awareness for at-risk youth and to help prevent and avoid more senseless tragedies such as this.
For the 27-city Born Brave Bus Tour, the BTW Foundation has invited the National Council for Behavioral Health to set up stations outside of each show, allowing little monsters and fans to meet with psychologists if they require help or need someone to talk to. It’s quite a resource for troubled youth.
Cynthia Germanotta, Gaga’s mom and her partner in the BTW Foundation, said (quotes via WENN), “Now more than ever, our kids need access to support within their communities, including mental health services. By connecting youth to these local resources, we hope to plant the seeds that will help them deal with today’s challenges and inspire them to continue exercising their strength and bravery well after the Born Brave Bus leaves town.”
Gaga is doing a revolutionary thing by being preventive, as opposed to merely reactionary. Bravo times 10 to the BTW Foundation for identifying an area where it can provide support.
