Bad news for Lamar Odom. The NBA free agent has been officially charged with a DUI, and there are some big consequences that accompany it.

TMZ reports that because Odom refused a Breathalyzer test when he was pulled over on Aug. 30, he automatically faces a one-year suspension of his license.

However, refusing to take the test may have actually helped Odom's case. In most cases, if a drunk driver fails a Breathalyzer test, they get charged with a DUI. If they fail with a .08 or higher, they face a separate charge for that.

Authorities believe Odom was under the influence not only of alcohol, but also drugs at the time of the incident, during which he was pulled over by police for driving too slowly.

Because it's Odom's first offense, he will likely face only probation and mandatory alcohol education classes in addition to his license suspension as these cases are almost always resolved with a plea deal.

What's perhaps on more dangerous grounds is Odom's relationship with wife Khloe Kardashian, who has threatened to leave him high and dry if he doesn't go to rehab.

Odom is scheduled for an arraignment on Sept. 27. Here's hoping he has a speedy recovery in the meantime.
